A viral CCTV video has shed new light on the Kurnool bus tragedy that occurred on October 24, 2025, in Andhra Pradesh, where a Hyderabad–Bengaluru private bus caught fire after colliding with a motorcycle and claimed 20 lives.
What the viral video shows.
The footage, recorded at around 2:23 a.m. at a petrol pump, shows the biker—identified as B. Shiva Shankar—riding unsteadily and allegedly under the influence of alcohol. The video captures him stopping at the pump, turning the bike while swerving, and then leaving in a visibly reckless manner .Police believe his unsteady, intoxicated driving led him to veer into the path of the bus minutes later on National Highway 44.
How the crash happened.
According to police and eyewitness reports, the bus collided with the biker’s motorcycle near Chinnatekuru village in Kurnool around 3:30 a.m. The open fuel cap of the motorcycle caused petrol to spill, and when the bike got dragged under the bus, sparks ignited the fuel. Within seconds, the bus’s fuel tank burst into flames, engulfing the vehicle.
Casualties and survivors
Out of 44 passengers, only a few managed to escape by breaking windows. The bus driver, Miriyala Lakshmaiah, jumped out through the passenger door and has since been booked for negligence and over-speeding along with the second driver .The majority of the victims were asleep during the crash.
Official response
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has ordered a high-level probe into the incident, while forensic teams are working to confirm the exact cause of the fire.The tragedy has reignited debate about road safety lapses, drunk driving, and the safety of private travel buses across India .
